Use Case

Lifesize Share™ is a hardware device that allows users to wirelessly share their desktop to a Lifesize video conferencing system or meeting room display. At Lifesize corporate headquarters, we use both a corporate wireless network and a guest wireless network. In addition to supporting our internal corporate users with secure wireless sharing, we also need to allow our visitors, such as vendors and partners, to securely share their desktop using our guest network.

At Lifesize, we use industry standard enterprise wireless access points and switches. We were able to complete this setup using the standard functionality available on our equipment.

Lifesize Share Configuration

Create a separate VLAN for the Lifesize Share device and connect the Lifesize Share to the new VLAN. In our example, this is VLAN 50.

  • Physically connect the Lifesize Share to your corporate network using its Ethernet port.
  • Configure the Ethernet port on the switch that connects to the Lifesize Share to the new VLAN (VLAN 50 in our example).

Network Configuration

With the Lifesize Share now on its own VLAN, configure Access Control Lists (ACL) to secure traffic from the Guest network.

  • Create an ACL to only allow traffic to the internet and Share devices (VLAN 50) from the Guest Network.

NOTE: Depending on your requirements, it may be desirable to prevent SSH and other methods of accessing the Share device directly via an ACL.
