On the Icon series systems..
The only thing you can control about sleep is the "Consumer Electronics Control" --
-> we want to adjust the actual sleep timer value (minutes?) and possibly disable sleep entirely on the icons.
we also have several customers that are asking if it isn't possible to change this setting.
This are all users that are used to work with a 220 series before and now missing a lot of configuration possibilities in the ICON, they see it as a device with better video quality but a lack of configuration possibilities.
(like identification under system or video number under system and most of all the possibility to manually add entries in favorites)
Some of our employees can barely figure out how to join a meeting. Trying to show them how to find the sleep button will just confuse them further.
This seems to me like a critical feature that needs to be added. It's there on the Room and Room 220, why it isn't on the Icon is beyond me. I've had numerous customers complain about this, please get it added ASAP.
If you enable sleep & CEC and aslo HDMI DPMS then when you turn off your TV the icon will go to sleep mode after 5 seconds, and when you turn the TV on the icon will wake up inmediatly. so there is no need to add any config or button at all.
This works when icon is hooked to a TV(LCD), dont know if still functional when using a different display type
Lifesize is really a strange company. About 50 partners are asking about very simple enhancement, complaining about lost of opportunities. But Lifesize is still "considering" ... more than one year. Too bad!
We do understand the benefits of adding a sleep timer setting. Unfortunately, we are not able to address all features requests as fast as we would like. We work to prioritize customer feedback while balancing adding new capabilities.
For example, in the upcoming 2.11 release we are adding support for support for 802.1x authentication and X.509. Following that release, we are adding the capability to integrate the Icon with your calendaring system (see our Coming Soon post here)
While we don't have a timetable for adding the sleep timer features, I am going to move the status to researching since it is capability we would like to enable.
Please don't hesitate to reach-out if you would like to discuss further and we can setup a call.
Thank you for your response.
My current customer (Nuclear Power Plant) is very lacking this feature in their new conference room.
I know, that Lifesize has very restricted development resourses and can't realize each customers wish. I understand, that implementing of timer feature in GUI may be a quite complex task, but simple disable GUI Sleep via API-command would be enough in 99% cases. You will receive 50 or even more "Likes" from satisfied peoples.
Development work for this feature is currently being planned. Targeting a release near the end of Q1.
Also for us and our customers is very important to have this feature
When will it be released?
Unfortunately, the team has had to delay this work. It is still planned but has not been set for a release target yet. Will update when we have more information to share.
I post here (there're are threads on this subject) just to raise up hand on this annoying subject, I suppose still planned by Lifesize, but unfixed yet.
Any time schedule ?
Paolo, we dp have some major releases coming out for Icon in the month of March. However, the resources have not been able to address this issue so we do not have a timing to share.
When this issue will be finally resolved, based on your expertise. This topic was created 3 (three) years ago...
Our customer just asked us again about this option. We told them a couple of years ago that this is in the works, and "Planned". When will this be available?
This feature looks like a HUGE project, lifesize took 4 years but not available yet now. Any update on this?
Please don't put this always on "Planned"!!
Yes it's really absurd !
if you (LS) say planned, then do your job. otherwise say "sorry no time, no expertise, no more devopment, only bug fix"...that sort of answer...so please at least change the status.
Anyway, in my new rooms I've planned to phase out LS, and my icon 800 will be the last device still alive.
I want to provide an update of what we've been working on and where we are currently.
Where we have been
Over the last several months/years we have developed a new cloud-based service architecture designed to handle massive global scale and rapid usage growth while enabling us to improve reliability and accelerate the pace of innovation. At the same time, we have been maintaining and growing the capabilities of our Icon 400, 450, 600 and 800. Two wide impacting features have been the increase from 720p to 1080p for both presentation and people for calls with more than 2 participants. Also, we introduced the concept of direct media calls which will route audio, video, and content through a company network for two person calls. Most recently we introduced the world to 4k video/presentation with the Icon 700 and Icon 300 systems.
Fast-forward to today
Since this feature was originally conceived we have seen a dramatic shift in the way customers want to use Lifesize in the conference room, it isn't only about video conferencing anymore. Heaviest asks from customers has been wireless presentation sharing, people do not like cables on the table. Also, many requests for digital whiteboard integration and a way to provide digital signage in the meeting rooms. This brought about the introduction to Lifesize Share which provides a suite of options which includes all of these capabilities. Interestingly enough these capabilities require the screen to stay on and never sleep! Over the next few months, we want to integrate the Icon and Share even tighter. As part of this integration, one small part is providing a way for customers to enable/disable sleep on the systems themselves. I would like to understand your uses cases in more detail.
All of our features require research which includes talking to customers and partners from all parts of the world. If you are interested in participating and would like to start a dialog please email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. Much easier to get on a video call. Hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you for your patience!
