We saw the following report.
iOS 11 Officially Eliminates 32-Bit App Support | TouchArcade
Are the following products 32 bit or 64 bit?
(1) LifeSize Cloud APP
(2) LifeSize Video APP
(3) LifeSize ClearSea APP
The current LifeSize Cloud APP is already 64bit. The older apps are not 64bit so will not work with iOS11.
Thank you for reply.
We have many users using the following.
Especially, we think that LifeSize Video(UVC ClearSea) is still supported products.
Do you have a schedule that corresponds to 64 bit?
We currently do not have a schedule to update.
I think it is really important to do this update for customers...
We have 3 customers which are using UVC CSS and they dont want to change for the Cloud for the moment. And they ask us to have this application for iOs 11. All the customer are with maintenance contract and they don't understand why it won't be possible to have this update.
I had a Customer with the same problem today. We will now try to push the customer to Cloud.
We have customers running UVC Clearsea as well
asking for a 64bit version for IOS11 as well .
We have the same demand here. Customers need the 64bit version of Lifesize Video for IOS 11.
the same applies to us. Will LifeSize ever support its customers paying maintenance fees?!?
Unfortunately, Apple has mandated several requirements for apps to support iOS11. The legacy UVC apps are not capable of meeting these requirements and therefore cannot be updated to iOS11. They will continue to work with iOS10x.
Sorry, Josh, do you really think one App will prevent iOS-users from updating their systems? We really feel abandoned by Lifesize: not updating the Lifesize video app, negleting the urgent wish to implement html5 in videocenter for years. Lifesize is doing everything to ruin customers satisfaction... (as POTUS would say: "very sad!")
This is a pity for existing customers who have paid support contracts. Contracts in which software updates are planned ...
I'm asking myself, is it normal to abandon a product when customers paid for support and maintenance ??!!
Josh, I found your answer very bad, the requirement is to compile the app in a 64bit version...
We have same troubles, hope lifesize to re-compile "lifesize video" for iOS11.
I have few customer asking the same question and i doubt they wont be using lifesize product anymore with those feedback. Is it very hard to have a 64bit software for LifeSize Video or LifeSize Clearsea?
No it is not hard, Apple put on line a guide in 2014 :
Converting Your App to a 64-Bit Binary
This was not a decision we took lightly. The 64 bit update isn’t the challenge, it’s updating the app to meet the other Apple requirements that have been enforced since the app’s last update in 2015, such as using the most recent SDK and verifying on IPv6 devices. It would require major rework of not 1 but both Clearsea apps that we haven’t touched in 2 years on a platform that will have been end of sale for >18 months by the time IOS11 released. Once something goes end of sale, one of the things we no longer commit to doing is continuing to develop the software to work with other things that change in customer environments. New OS versions are the best possible example of this. We can't keep redeveloping our software to meet new OS versions on IOS, just like we aren’t going to upgrade the PC versions of Clearsea apps to whatever the new Microsoft release is after Windows 10. OS upgrades are optional even in the Apple iOS ecosystem. If it is critical for the app to continue to serve the Clearsea user base, then they will need to remain on iOS 10.
But Apple has announced en october 2014 that every new iOS app must be 64 bit from the 1st of February 2015 and every updated app must be 64 bit from the 1st of June 2015.
So, what's your excuse to not make the update back in 2015 when you were still selling your platform ?
The frustration is certainly understandable but this was a necessary business decision. In 2015 the on premise infrastructure market was already declining for several years and the cloud market was steadily increasing. Lifesize resources were being dedicated to developing the cloud platform (the IOS app was 64 bit from the start) and it soon became apparent that it would not be feasible to maintain both platforms so the difficult decision to discontinue the UVC platform (partner notification made in January 2016 and general announcement in March 2016) was made. Clearsea was one of seven products of the UVC platform and IOS devices account for about 5% of all calls made so the other 95% of devices can still use the platform. If Lifesize cloud is an option for any current Clearsea customers we recommend engaging your local Lifesize account manager as special considerations are made for existing Clearsea customers that migrate to cloud.
We do understand lifesize policy, and we hope lifesize can take care exist customers who might be lifesize cloud subscribers in next quarter or next year. For lifesize, just invests a bit efforts to transfer lifesize video to 64bits for iOS11.
I think we all understand your position, but still - you decided to keep selling service contracts at the same pricing as before, fully knowing that the customers would not get any updates what so ever. That also goes for the otherwise excellent Video Center platform, which could live for many more years with very little attention. It already has HTML5 support for streaming but it's "hard coded" against iOS and will not work for desktop browsers.
Would be nice to hear why service contracts have been sold the last few years as I wrote, when you already had taken the "business decision" to stop developing these platforms. Especially virtualized platforms, then the service contract just becomes ridiculous.
I just wanted to respond to one part of your comment above, specifically the piece regarding why Lifesize has chosen to offer Assurance Maintenance Service contract to our customers. The key component of our AMS contracts is access to the Lifesize Customer Support Helpdesk, and this facility offers huge value to our customers and partners the world over. This fact is regardless of whether there are new software updates or upgrades available on a specific product, or whether the product is software-only or a hardware appliance. This is why we continue to offer service contracts to customers who use our products.
Specifically talking about the old on-premise Lifesize UVC products and UVC Video Center. The renewal of AMS service has never been mandatory, so if an individual customer or partner (as in your case) doesn't see the value in renewing the contract in order to receive technical support and assistance from Lifesize (which is the primary purpose of the AMS contract), then that's up to the individual user or organisation to decide.

I think that what I'm getting at is why LS keep offering AMS when the benefits of that programme has been so reduced? If the service contract originally comprises software updates, helpdesk and perhaps hw replacement and then all that's left is the helpdesk, that should be quite visible in the pricing. Just compare to the 'Basic Plan' for endpoints. Also, we now know, that Lifesize did take decisions long before customers and partners knew about these limitations so we just continued with renewals and then understood over time that customers did get very limited value to say the least.
Also, even with the helpdesk part, since Lifesize has no or very few people left with knowledge about the legacy platforms, most helpdesk cases ends with "sorry this platform is not being developed anymore".
I don't think anyone expects any updates but it would be a nice gesture to just acknowledge that this was not done well by Lifesize instead of implying that partners and customers have gotten it wrong
Best Regards from Sweden!
let´s face it: lifesize does everything it can to dissatisfy its customers. I wouldn´t recommend lifesize to anyone interested in videoconferencing. I like the Icon600 as hardware, but I am throughly diappointed by its customer care and services...
We may have to face it, but how can we face to our customers who ever trust us to choose lifesize solutions!! @@
Why ? Cloudsolution offers you a better solution .. no more flashplugins ... wich are a securetybreach more that internal och external.
or do the job we pay for, update app when there is a security breach or when the system need 64bit version !
same here,. we have customers who invested hundreds of thousands of $ into their LS UVC infrastructures and now because of this issue they lost their interest and trust in LS and looking for different solutions...
If Lifesize is not willing to update its products, that are still under maintenance contract, why not providing the source code of the uvc clearsea app?
this would at least give the community the chance to port the app. i am quite sure, there are some programmers out there who would be willing and able to geht the app up to date and running on ios 11.
Thumbs up! Please provide the source code of Lifesize Video App, too
just opened a feature request for community development of UVC apps.
